How to Stay Focused When Everything Demands Your Attention

May 22, 20262 min read

🌎 ✨ One of the hardest parts of event coordination is everything feels important all at the same time!

Your phone is ringing. Vendors need answers. Attendees have questions. Timelines are shifting. And your brain is trying to manage all of it simultaneously.

This constant mental switching creates overload.

And eventually, focus starts breaking down.

Why Your Focus Disappears Under Stress

When your nervous system becomes overstimulated, your attention gets pulled in multiple directions at once.

Your brain starts scanning for problems constantly.

This can create:

  • Mental fatigue

  • Forgetfulness

  • Difficulty prioritizing

  • Emotional reactivity

  • Trouble staying present

The issue is not that you’re incapable of focusing.

The issue is that your nervous system is overloaded.

How to Stay Focused During High-Stress Events

1. Stop Trying to Hold Everything Mentally

Your brain was not designed to carry dozens of moving pieces at once.

Write things down.
Use checklists.
Externalize tasks.

This frees up mental energy and THAT always calms everything down!

2. Prioritize What Actually Matters

Not every issue deserves the same level of urgency.

Ask yourself:
“What has the biggest impact right this second?”

Focus on high-impact priorities first.

3. Create Mini Nervous System Resets

Your nervous system needs recovery moments throughout the day.

Even 60 seconds helps:

  • Step outside briefly

  • Slow your breathing

  • Relax your shoulders

  • Reset your focus intentionally

Small moments of regulation prevent mental exhaustion from building.

4. Limit Reactive Energy

Event environments are emotionally intense because there is so much going on.

But not every emotion around you belongs to you. You actually might be picking up on those around you.

Strong leadership often means staying grounded while others become reactive.

Focus Is a Nervous System Function

Most people think focus is purely mental.

But focus is deeply connected to nervous system regulation.

When your body feels safe:

  • Your attention improves

  • Your thinking becomes clearer

  • Your emotional regulation strengthens

  • And your performance becomes more sustainable

You don’t need to force more productivity.

You need to support the system responsible for it.

You got this!
